Agreement for Spiritual Direction
Spiritual Direction provides a space for you to rest and to turn inward. A sacred place where we can pause and listen together for what is going on around you and in you.
The goal is not to find answers but to leave space and openness as we journey toward the possibilities of healing, agency, confidence in oneself, reconnection to culture, identity, and ancestry, deeper intimacy with your spirituality, and more.
My hope is we can open up to the mystery and create pathways to see, hear, and feel how Spirit is moving in and around your life in a way that feels safe, honorable, and true to who you are.
There will always be space for us to continue to define and redefine what spiritual direction looks like for us during our time together.
Determining If We Are a Fit
I exclusively co-create healing space with women and gender expansive people of color who belong to various spiritual traditions.
I do not work with men or white individuals at this time.
Sessions
We will begin each session with a check-in and then move through silence or another grounding practice. Often in that time, you may discern something for us to explore together, or you may already have something in mind as we come together.
Spiritual Direction is very different from psychotherapy. While therapists use frameworks to help clients navigate their life problems, I am actively abandoning frameworks because we are not trying to solve anything. I am here to hold space and accompany you through life. We are actively “being present to the present.”
Although it is appropriate at times to discuss psychological and relational difficulties in the context of spiritual direction, I am not a psychotherapist, nor do I provide such services. Similarly, you recognize that spiritual direction is not financial advice, and any decisions and actions you may take in that regard are done without my advice or recommendation and are purely your responsibility.
Confidentiality
I will hold your conversations in strict confidence as our time together is sacred.
However, I may share my experiences with my clients with my supervisor, and/or peer spiritual directors for guidance. It is a standard practice for directors to receive supervision to grow in their practice or gain expanded perspectives. I can assure you I will keep your name and all other identifiable characteristics anonymous in all supervision capacities. If you prefer to opt out of having any of our sessions reviewed within supervision, you may let me know at any time.
On the other hand, you are free to share whatever you choose about our conversations with anyone.
Besides supervision, I agree to keep all information strictly confidential, except in those situations in which such confidentiality would violate the law or could jeopardize the safety of you or others. I am required to report suspected cases of child or elder abuse. Also, professional ethics regarding confidentiality require spiritual directors to report imminent self-endangerment (suicide) or harm to others.
Frequency and Meeting
Each session is 50-60 minutes.
We mutually commit to begin and end our sessions on time. If you wish to change your appointment, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance by email. Without this advance notice, you will pay for the appointment time. If you are late or forget our call, I will wait up to 10 minutes unless you contact me; otherwise, you will forfeit your meeting time.
The most typical rhythm is a monthly, 50-60-minute session, but you may desire to meet more frequently or for a longer session periodically, and that is fine, as long as we schedule in advance. If you would like to share an update or concern with me in between sessions, you are welcome to email me.
Because the sessions are virtual, please be sure you are in a private room to give the best meeting environment possible. Please no coffee shops or public places.
Fees and Platforms
The agreed upon session fee is payable following each Spiritual Direction session via PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle.
Termination
At any time and for any reason, you or I may decide to terminate the agreement. Examples may be a health or family crisis, recognizing we are not a good fit together or you may decide spiritual direction is not a right fit for you in this season.
In the event that either party wants to terminate, we both commit to open and honest communication.
If I am to terminate our agreement, I commit to referring or recommending other directors who I believe may be a good fit for you.
